Home Town Hero is a page about someone near you that you deem the hero of your town. My hometown hero is Eddie Wells of Headland, Alabama. Watch the video of Eddie Wells talking about his role as a hero and view the photos and story of what he is like!

In every town, there is always someone who undoubtedly makes their community better. This person is someone who will happily lend a hand to those in need without a second thought. The person who I believe to be the hero of my town is surely Eddie Wells. From providing refreshments and snacks to neighbors to even providing long-distance transportation, I can definitely say that Eddie has been like a hero to me.

Living in Headland, Alabama for 33 years, Eddie Wells is well known here for his boisterous personality and for his charitable endeavors. This reputation of Wells started when he took on the job of a cafeteria worker at Headland Elementary school. He was so well-liked by the children and staff that he ended up finding himself taking on work in other parts of the school such as a janitor, maintenance man, school aide, and so on. After 15 years of work, Wells ended up retiring due to arthritis. However, this didn’t stop Wells from spreading good will to the people around him.

After his retirement, Wells sought to busy himself with handiwork and trinket collecting. He began putting his maintenance skills to work by helping out his neighbors with any repairs they may have needed. Whenever he would help a family out, he would always remember to bring something for kids whether it be a toy, drink, or a snack. This wound up with him building a good reputation with the people of his neighborhood which spread to other parts of the town where he would gladly help anyone out with any task he could do. This eventually led to him being able reach out to more and more people outside his neighborhood in need of help that he could assist which is how I came to know him. He built up such a good relationship with the people of his area that he keeps his home stocked with drinks, snacks, and toys for anyone to come by and enjoy.

Having had met Eddie Wells when I was child, I always felt at home when I was at his home and was happy to know that he could always help my family out when we ran into a problem. Even now as a college student, he still helps and I’ve been so grateful for him. To stick your neck our for other people and help them even when there may be no benefit to you is what makes me consider someone a hero, and that is all the reason why I consider Wells to be the hometown hero of my town.

In Loving Memory of Eddie Wells
